It is Flag Day!
We don’t know what is the more disturbing revelation in this article about flag myths: The fact that Betsy Ross didn’t make the first one, or the fact that Betsy Ross’s name was actually Elizabeth Claypoole. WHAT?!
I went to the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia last year, and every other plaque says something like, “Betsy Ross may or may not have done this, we’re not really sure.”
Also, fun fact that I learned at the Betsy Ross House — no one knew about Betsy Ross’s flag contribution until one of her descendants told the story years later to Congress, which makes you wonder how much of it is verifiable anyway.
